Different types of vinegar; not only Balsamic Vinegar

Today we are not talking about the Balsamic Vingera of Modena, but we are going to face a different argument.

The different types of vinegar are mostly unknown to the market, but I think one should be aware of their existence. Indeed, here you are a little guide to the different types of vinegar. Curious? Let’s read!

Apple vinegar
It is fermented by apple juice. It is ideal for salad and marinate meat.

Rice vinegar
Rice vinegar is very common in Asian cuisines: the Japanese one has a sweet flavor, while the Chinese one is strong and slightly acid. Depending on the rice  it can be of white, red or black color.

Japanese rice vinegar (Komezu)
It has a sweet and delicate flavor.

Chinese red rice vinegar
Slightly salty, excellent with fish and Chinese pasta dishes.

Chinese black vinegar (Zhenjiang)
It has a flavor similar to soy sauce combined with balsamic vinegar. Great for frying vegetables, to season steamy ravioli and soups. It is obtained by the fermentation of glutinous rice.

Vietnamese rice vinegar
Spicy and sour, it is used in many Vietnamese sauces and for the Hoisin sauce.

Vinegar Umeboshi
The umeboshi acidifier is made from umeboshi plums and is very common in Japanese cuisine. Ideal for vegetarian dishes.

Sherry vinegar
It has a caramel color, full flavor and is ripened in wooden barrels and can be very expensive. Ideal as a final touch to red meats, stews and soups.

Cane vinegar
It is produced from cane sugar juice. It has a sweet taste and is very popular in South East Asian cuisine.

Malt vinegar
Made from barley malt, it is often used for onions and other vegetables. Its taste is too strong for salads, but is the ideal condiment for fish and chips.

Grape vinegar passes
Mainly used in Turkey and Greece, it is a common ingredient in Middle Eastern cuisine. Very aromatic, with sweet notes, ideal for eggplant dishes.

As you can see, these types of balsamic vinegar are very different from the Balsamic Vinegar of Modena, which is one of the best you can find on the market.
