The investigation, led by the finance police in collaboration with the officials of the Central Inspectorate Department for Quality Assurance and Fraud Repression of Bari Agri-Food Products, brought to the seizure of over 13.5 thousand hectolitres of table grape must. They were ready to be transformed into original Balsamic Vinegar of Modena IGP for an estimated value of over 600 thousand Euros.
In particular, they discovered an illegal deposit of table grape must in an old disused cellar in the industrial area of Rutigliano, which is at a few kilometres from Bari. Here there were tanker trucks loaded with products and destined to a wine cellar of a company in Cerignola (Foggia), which was responsible for fraudulent production.
In the end, three entrepreneurs have been reported for aggravated fraud, commercial fraud and infringement of the designations of origin of agricultural products. Besides, the owner of the illegal deposit was charged a pecuniary sanction of 90 Euros per hectolitre of product.
