The Consortium’s Director, Federico Desimoni, stated that the fight is still quite far from being won. However there were some successful events, such as the exclusion from the markets of those products that were labelled with the word “balsamic”, without having the right elements to be considered such, nor any certification. As a consequence, there will be verdicts within 2018 for these products that are not authorized to have the word “balsamic” on their labels.
What about foreign markets? Not long ago, the Consortium closed two cases in France and in England for the improper use of respectively “vinagre balsamique” and “balsamic vinegar”. For what concerns Extra-Ue countries, it is used the method of the consortium brand. In the United States, for instance, the consortium brand was registered and the safeguard of IGP balsamic vinegar is led by communication activities.
