The representatives of the institutions involved in the registration process highlighted the importance of this result for the territory, the tradition and the culture of Modena. In particular Enrico Corsini, President of the Consortium for the Protection of Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena, emphasized how the recognition of the PGI has had positive effects on the entire sector of balsamic vinegars of Modena.
Balsamic Vinegar is an element of fundamental importance for the social, cultural and economic network of Modena and of Emilia Romagna. It constitutes a patrimony created, protected and valued by entrepreneurs who could always count on institutional support especially as regards promotion and enhancement. Today more than ever they are supported in their legal battles by the Ministry and by the government.
“Ten years of protection. Three centuries of history. ” This is the pay off chosen by the Consortium of Balsamic Vinegar for the 10th anniversary of its registration. This is also the title of the conference presented on the 3rd of July. The conference consisted in a reflection on the historical process that led to the birth of this product. It underlined the socio-cultural, as well as the economic importance of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena. The first part was dedicated to the history and tradition of balsamic vinegars. Then the second part explored the new frontiers of communications
Ten years works and much more to do, thanks to the incessant work of the Consortium which officially started its activities in 1993. However, it is after 2009 that its work highly intensified. Numerous the activities over the last two years: among them there are some ordinances-injunctions of the ICQRF sanctions office, two sentences of the court of Bologna, a sentence of the Court of Appeal of Bologna and a litigation started by Germany and now in decision at the Court of European Justice.
Many energies were also devoted to communication, promotion and enhancement of the product: in fact, many projects were carried out by the Consortium both nationally and internationally. Many of them obtained public funding and made it possible to develop significant initiatives in important markets outside Europe, like the United States. This latter project aimed at the American market, started in 2017 and will end in 2020. However a renewal has already been requested for a further three-year period.
….as they say, the best is yet to come!
